Two-thirds of the three-star director trio who made 2017s Call me by your name Reportedly, a romantic success story is reunited for a film about cannibalism – but not the two thirds you would expect. In other words: Deadline is reporting that Timothée Chalamet and Luca Guadagnino may be collaborating with actress Taylor Russell Bones & All, a new movie about a young woman who starts looking at her roots after realizing that she has a deep compulsion to eat her romantic mates. This is another prominent career milestone for Russell, who is currently playing on Netflix Lost in space, who was praised in 2019 for her starring role in Trey Edward Shults’ coming-of-age drama Waves. But although we would like to place our full focus here on Russell’s continued climb on the great movie star ladder – which is possibly in line with the Suspiria director, and the uber-productive Chalamet – there’s another topic lurking below. One that, for better or worse, distracts a bit from the discussion of her two collaborators who are starting a film about romantic cannibalism tonight.

And look: we tried very hard not to highlight the aspects of ‘allegedly eating people’ the scandal that currently enveloped Chalamet and Guadagnino’s former collaborator, Armie Hammer, mostly because all the “I want to eat your ribs” allegations have a tendency to obstruct or obscure the accusations of sexually abusive and manipulative behavior, which were also leveled against the actor, both in a series of Instagram DMs he allegedly sent, and also by former romantic partners. (Hammer denies everything, for what it’s worth.) But also: it is profound strange (if only just strangely coincidental) that her two most prominent colleagues of the past few years would launch a new film about someone who wants to eat the people she is currently in love with.

It certainly seems that Hammer’s estranged wife, Elizabeth Chambers, agrees; as noticed by Question paper, Chambers reportedly commented on an Instagram post recently spoke about the project with a concise, ‘No. Words. ”

Anyway! Bones & All is based on a 2016 novel by Camille DeAngelis; Dave Kajganich wrote the screenplay. Chalamet it still Dune of course on the horizon, and Guadagnino’s last project was the HBO TV series We are who we are.
