It’s New Year’s Eve in Times Square, like you’ve never seen it before.
The Crossroads of the World turned into an ominous ghost town on Thursday as officials closed the area to revelers due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
While the last hours of 2020 were over, the NYPD blocked public access to the world-famous website for its New Year’s Eve celebrations crammed with partygoers.
A live video feed of the Reuters area showed only a handful of people – instead of the thousands who usually gather to watch the ball fall at midnight.
For the first time in 114 years, the New Year’s Eve spectacle is being held in Times Square without a live audience.
Instead, a star-studded celebration featuring performances by Jennifer Lopez, Cyndi Lauper and others will be broadcast from the site for home viewers.
