Tiger Woods ‘in good spirits’ after leg injury follow-up procedures

Tiger Woods is “recovering” after undergoing follow-up procedures on his leg injuries on Friday morning, according to a statement posted on his Twitter account.

Woods underwent his procedures at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he was transferred Wednesday night after the accident with a single vehicle the previous day, leaving him with serious injuries to his right leg.

“Tiger and his family would like to thank you all for the wonderful support and messages they have received over the past few days,” the statement read. “We will have no further updates at this time. Thank you for your continued privacy.”

According to dr. Anish Mahajan of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, located about 18 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, is moving “for continued orthopedic care and recovery.”

Mahajan said on Tuesday that Woods sustained multiple “open fractures” to his right lower leg and had a rod placed in his tibia, placing screws and pins in his foot and ankle during an emergency operation.

Two separate sources told ESPN on Wednesday that Woods sustained an injury to his talus bone, which connects the bottom of the lower leg to the top of the foot. The leg is a pivot point for movement. Sources say that screws were probably placed in the area to help cure it and, if all goes well, eventually allow normal movement.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a Level 1 trauma center, meaning it is qualified to provide the most comprehensive surgical and other care for such injuries. Cedars-Sinai has a renowned Institute of Sports Medicine that has catered for professional athletes and a rehabilitation program for sports-related and orthopedic injuries.
