Three officers injured in possible explosion in Kansas

Three officers in Wichita, Kansas, were injured in a possible explosion Saturday in a vacant home they were sent to check on, authorities said.

One officer sustained serious injuries and was stable in a hospital, the Wichita Police Department tweeted. The other two sustained minor injuries and were also admitted to hospital, the department said.

A SWAT team has been ‘activated’ as part of the department’s response to the incident, which took place after the 16:00 broadcast, police said. The department’s bomb squad was also at the address.

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were at the scene, the ATF tweeted.

“This is still an active situation,” Wichita police said. said.

The house is south of downtown Wichita, according to NBC affiliate KSNW.
