On Sunday, the LA Times published a report on the Goth nightclub Cloak & Dagger in Hollywood, which according to some former clubgoers promoted an environment of sexual misconduct and abuse before it closed earlier this year. One of the people mentioned in the piece is Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch; a woman named Hannah Harding claims that the actor made a “disgusting sexual overture” and touched her at the venue on October 22, 2019, in addition to touching another woman. When club operations manager Kate Morgan notified his co-founders, Adam Bravin and Michael Patterson, and asked to remove Middleditch from the club, they allegedly “fired” it.
According to Harding, the actor later sent her a message saying, “I had no idea my actions were so strange to you” and “I am so ashamed that I made you uncomfortable.” After that, Bravin allegedly contacted Harding to imply that she was completely wrong about the incident. “Adam called me ‘to make sure and get a second opinion about him’ because they did not trust my story in the first place,” she says. “They care more about famous people at their club than about the safety of women.” According to the Times, this was not the first complaint the management had made to the management about Middleditch’s behavior.
The Times piece, which contains the report of ten women, four of whom are former employees, further describes how the “unhindered, LGBTQ-friendly, members-only club” where “experimental artists perform horrific, sexually charged ceremonies every week. Times, Cloak & Dagger has previously expelled well-known members, including screenwriter Max Landis, who was accused of sexual and emotional abuse in 2019, though not at the club.
In another incident, a woman named Elizabeth claims that an unnamed ‘prominent Cloak member’ sexually assaulted her in October 2018. After telling a friend, an actress at the club, about the incident, they confronted the man, after which the actress was allegedly banished for a month and called a company meeting with Bravin and Elizabeth’s attempted rapist. ‘Michael and Adam were furious about her, ”Says Morgan. “They suspended her, apologized to the member and told her to move on.” Bravin tells the Times, ‘I met the [accused] member the next day, and he gave his report of a consensual experience. He apparently did not contact Elizabeth for her account.
In statements to the Times, the club’s co – founders denied the allegations against the venue, which was announced in January that it would be closed. “To the best of my knowledge, they have reported every incident to us, and my knowledge extends to every case that has been brought to our attention,” Patterson said.
