This PlayStation DVR add-on is coming back to Japan, and it will get PS5 support

While Microsoft is undergoing live TV offerings in the OneGuide for Xbox One, an earlier Sony attempt that brought live TV and even DVR features to PlayStation is a return. In 2010, Sony launched a live TV tuner for the PS3 called Torne, and finally followed it up with Nasne, a combo device that blends the tuner with a built-in hard drive and streaming media support. It eventually also supported the PS4, but died out anyway.

Now Engadget Japan notifies us that the Nasne is back, now manufactured by another Buffalo company, but with similar dreams of serving as a headless DVR device that drags in TV streams to play on your PlayStation console or mobile device to see. The product page reveals that with upgraded built-in storage it can now support up to 6 TB of external storage, and that you can combine multiple units to record more than one channel at a time

An advance page is available on Amazon Japan, where it will cost 29,800 yen ($ 273) for a unit with 2 TB of storage, and yes, a PS5 ready-made app will arrive by the end of the year. The new software will do nothing for the design yet made to fit the PS3, but what’s wrong with a setback?
