This mockery of Bears 2021 sends help with the first four choices

With only a few days of NFL-free agency, the outline of the team needs for the 2021 NFL draft will change dramatically with each signing. So immediately take pulls with a grain of salt.

Take the latest mockery of Adam Hoge from NBC Sports Chicago. He gave the Bears an overall attack on offense with their first four picks.

In the first round, Hoge took on the bearers of Virginia Tech, Christian Darrisaw. This is an excellent choice, especially given the team’s decision to separate from Bobby Massie. Darrisaw is an absolute stud and a top 10 player on my board. He will have great value if he falls to number 20.

In the second round – at no. 52 – he leaves the Bears landing in WR, Rashod Bateman.

Look, if Chicago comes out of the first two rounds with Darrisaw and Bateman? Think of a dream come true. But that’s not going to happen. Bateman is a player in the first round and there is little or no chance that he will be at no. 52 will not be.

I like the purposeful position, but the choice is wishful thinking.

High remains offensive in Round 3 and lets the Bears land Trey Sermon in Ohio State, a nice prospect who has all the qualities teams are looking for in a start-back.

Chicago has no depth behind David Montgomery (even with a healthy Tarik Cohen coming back) and Sermon, another intermediary, will make a lot of sense.

The Bears’ first quarterback pick in this spot plays in Round 5, with Georgia’s Jamie Newman (last played for Wake Forest). Newman, more athlete than pure passer, has an NFL backup working at this point in his career as a training group. Not a good choice.
