Henry James, strange romance and ghosts. This is the DNA of Ghost of Bly Manor, and this is the subject of this amazing (if long) video essay.

Ladyknightthebrave makes fascinating, detailed video essays that go deep into how pieces of media work. Her latest is an essay on the Netflix show A Ghost from Bly Manor, the way death and memory work in the show, exploring its influences and reflecting on the themes. It also contains, interestingly, a new interview with creator Mike Flanagan, which provides a compelling insight into the production of the program and its thematic involvement.

This essay in particular does an excellent job in production details and background to a longer reading of the series. As a follow-up to Ghost of Hill House, it’s a fascinating series, and Ladyknight breaks it down effectively. She also has some very good information about Henry James, which is good for those of us who did not suffer the 19th century horrors before recording the program.

I enjoy a close look at how a story tell himself, and it’s really a good one. It’s a good thing to keep going for a lazy weekend. You will learn something.
