US job growth accelerates in March; unemployment rate drops to 6.0%

U.S. employers hired more workers in March than expectedspurred by increasing vaccinations and more money from the government of the pandemic, confirming expectations that an economic boom was underway.

Non-farm payrolls rose 916,000 jobs last month, the Department of Labor said Friday. It was the biggest gain since last August.

The data for February have been revised higher to show 468 000 jobs created instead of 379 000 previously reported.

Economists polled by Reuters predicted that payrolls would increase by 647,000 jobs in March.

The unemployment rate fell to 6.0% last month from 6.2% in February.
