DeVos and Chao on Thursday became the two most notable officials of the administration who resigned in protest after the violence at the Capitol on Wednesday afternoon, when Trump rioters stormed the building amid the certification of Congress by President Joe Biden’s victory in the Electoral College. DeVos’ resignation will take effect on Friday, while Chao’s resignation will take effect on January 11.
Before the riot – which led to the deaths of five people, including a U.S. police officer in the Capitol – the president dug up his supporters during a protest outside the White House and encouraged them to march to the Capitol. “You will never take back our country with weakness.
