‘They Run Away’: Clyburn blows up DeVos, Chao for resigning without calling for 25th Amendment

The South Carolina Democrat has suggested that Trump is likely to be removed from office no less than two weeks before his term expires.

‘No, I do not believe 13 or 14 days is enough to do that. But it’s sure enough for the vice president and cabinet members, “Clyburn said before calling on DeVos and Chao.

‘For two cabinet members to resign, it tells me they are fleeing from their responsibility. If they feel so strongly, they will stay there and wait for this meeting so that they can cast two of the votes needed to call for the 25th Amendment, ‘he said. “They’re running away.”

Spokesmen for the two resigning secretaries did not immediately return requests for comment on Clyburn’s criticism.

DeVos and Chao on Thursday became the two most notable officials of the administration who resigned in protest after the violence at the Capitol on Wednesday afternoon, when Trump rioters stormed the building amid the certification of Congress by President Joe Biden’s victory in the Electoral College. DeVos’ resignation will take effect on Friday, while Chao’s resignation will take effect on January 11.

Before the riot – which led to the deaths of five people, including a U.S. police officer in the Capitol – the president dug up his supporters during a protest outside the White House and encouraged them to march to the Capitol. “You will never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong, ”he said.

Numerous Democratic lawmakers, numerous former federal officials, some governors and at least one member of the Republican House have all demanded that Trump be removed from office immediately. On Thursday, both House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called on Pence to call in the 25th Amendment, as did Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.).

And Rep. House Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) On Friday morning predicted that the full chamber could vote to accuse Trump by mid-next week. Asked if the potential timeline was accurate, Clyburn told CNN, “Oh, I think so.”
