These peeled Pokémon designs are awful

Since the earliest days of the franchise, Pokémon fans have been sharing their own personal attitudes about the creatures, but peeled Pokémon is perhaps the most disturbing version ever! The @peeled_pokemon account on Twitter runs through every Pokémon of the franchise, with some details removed using Paint Tool Sai 2. According to Kotaku, the designs started as a joke between friends, but the account quickly blew up on social media platform; @peeled_pokemon started tweeting in January 2020 and has more than 66,000 followers as of this writing. Clearly, the designs have struck a chord with many Pokémon fans!

At this point, the account has now deleted photos of the first 452 Pokémon shared with details. This puts them in Gen IV territory, which seems quite appropriate, considering all the recent Pokémon Diamond and Pearl news! The peeled Pokémon designs are all posted according to their official Pokedex order, so most hardcore fans won’t have too much trouble identifying them (the numbers are included in each Tweet, but names are not). For casual fans, however, some can identify more easily than others! An example of the @peeled_pokemon account can be found below.

It’s interesting to see how fans responded to these messages and how much the bill has declined over the past year. This is a testament to the franchise’s popularity, and it also shows the different ways Pokémon continue to inspire creativity among fans. Over the past 25 years, Pokémon fans have found many creative stores throughout the franchise, and these peeled Pokémon designs are no exception. It’s unclear if the person managing the account will eventually offer peeled versions of each Pokémon in the franchise, but as the creator of the account approaches halfway, it seems like a clear possibility!

Those interested in finding more of the artist’s work can find it on the @peeled_pokemon Twitter account. The artist also has a Ko-fi account which can be found here.
