Chrome OS devices also use Android, or at least a large amount of Android base, to run apps that run alongside Chrome browser pages. But you may not have thought much about exactly which version of Android your Chromebook uses. After all, it’s not immediately relevant to most features of a Chrome OS device: it’s handled by the larger Chrome OS, which is frequently updated with the browser by Google.
But the version of Android used to run any Android application on your Chrome OS device is important, if only because it determines whether it can take advantage of some of the features added to Google’s mobile operating system word. The build of Android on Chrome OS will be updated to Android 11 from Chrome version 90, which is currently running in the beta channel. Striking upgrades from the previous Android 9 base include dark mode and uniform app scale.
An Android Police Browser showed us a page in Chromium’s Gerrit Review Repository, which contains all of the code’s names for the Chrome OS devices Google is planning to upgrade. We crossed the names to find the laptops, tablets and desktops (“Chromeboxes”) that get the Android 11 upgrade along with Chrome 90. Here is the list, according to the manufacturer:

Note that there are some codenames for motherboards and devices that do not appear to be directly related to a released device. These can be development tools, emerging devices (such as “asurada”, “dedede” and “trogdor”), or simply products designed but never made. New Chromebooks and other Chrome OS devices that will be released in the future should let Android 11 run outside the gate.
