There is a real Subaru Impreza 22B for sale on Bring a Trailer

The Impreza 22B is the best Subaru. Built in a limited number to homologate the company’s factory WRC efforts in the 1990s, and it’s chock full of rally upgrades that will make any enthusiast drool. 22Bs are extremely rare, with about 400 buildings. As such, you do not see it for sale regularly, especially not in America. This one has just been auctioned in California and it looks just about perfect.

Like all 22Bs, this particular bodywork has to distinguish it from the standard Impreza. There are wider screens to cover specific gold-painted BBS wheels, with STI brake flaps and a ProDrive tuned suspension. Under the hood sits a 2.2-liter turbocharged four-wheel drive that made 280 horsepower new. It gets power to all four wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox and a rear-wheel drive adjustable electronic diff – the latest technology in the 1990s.

This particular car, originally imported under the Show or Show Exemption Act, looks in a spectacular state, given the high mileage of 40,000 miles (at least relative to your average 22B miles). The body panels, chassis and interior are fitted with a Recaro seat. As a bonus, the timing belt and water pump were replaced earlier in 2021.

It’s hard to say for how much this 22B will sell. As a legal homologation specialist, it has an exceptional origin. And the age of nineties cars as full-fledged collectibles is good for us. As of this writing, up to $ 88,888 has been bid, with another 13 days to bid.

How much do you think this 22B is worth? What would you do with it if you owned it? Let us know in the comments below.
