The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra Camera Screen is the latest example of a feature featured as a feature

Xiaomi is working on a premium version of its new Mi 11, and if an early practical leak of YouTuber Tech Buff PH is authentic (and it seems to be for sure), the Mi 11 Ultra is all about the camera.

This is nothing to be surprised about. All the best Android phones get a major update in the camera department of the previous year’s model, and camera features are one of the things you can see in any release. It can often feel like the phone is secondary and companies are trying to sell cameras that can connect to the internet.

But no one with the right mind has ever asked what we see in the camera section in the Mi 11 Ultra hands-on: a Giants camera bulges with three high-megapixel cameras, a trio of what looks like flickers, and a 1-inch AMOLED screen that reflects the front screen (or launches its own app, if you like).

Why? I understand the triple lens part. It is said that one is periscope with up to 120x zoom and one is probably wide angle or macro or something, while the third is meant to be the good ordinary camera used when you do not want to peek into windows.

But the back screen is just stupid. I can think of a lot of bad things to say about it, but I stick to the first two that immediately occurred to me when I first saw it: the screen is going to increase the cost of the device. very, and the best part of the Mi 11 is the price of under $ 1000. And at arm’s length – like when you take a selfie – you will not be able to see anything on the screen of the stamp size, which reduces its usefulness.

When the Mi 11 Ultra is announced, Xiaomi gets the chance to tell us why we need it.

I can think of no reason why it would even be anything other than framing a selfie taken through the rear camera lens instead of the really good 20MP selfie camera that the original Mi 11 was put together with. Maybe you can take a 120x zoom photo of your fillings to send to your dentist or something, but I think the front camera and a screen you can see will take better selfies than any of the rear lenses through ‘ a teen seeker.

I’m sure Xiaomi will tell us all the usage cases for this thing as soon as the company makes the phone official. But I would bet that most people will have their heads scratched and wonder how much this screen has contributed to the cost of the phone.

This is really unfortunate because the rest of the phone specifications look good. 67 W charging, 4K HDR recording, night mode for video and a 5,000 mAh battery. It even has a QHD + 120Hz screen. Too bad it all has to be on some sort of parasitic hump at the back, with a useless little mirror of the screen that you will eventually use.
