Bonnie Jacobson, 34, told Good Morning America she was fired from the Red Hook Tavern in Brooklyn on Monday after she told management she wanted to hold out because she and her husband were trying to have a child and it was unclear whether the vaccines can have any impact on it.

She said employees had received an email from the restaurant saying it was a requirement to be vaccinated, and when she said she wanted to wait, she received an email with the message: ‘Right now your service will be terminated. if you change your mind, please let us know. ‘

The Federal Commission for Equal Employment Opportunity said employers may require employees to be vaccinated.

In a statement, Billy Durney, owner of the restaurant, said: “After the state of New York allowed restaurant workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, we felt it was the ideal opportunity to put a plan in place. to keep our team and our guests safe.

Jacobson said it is not against being vaccinated.
