The woman died after the Westside neighbor accidentally left

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A woman died Sunday after the neighbor’s gun accidentally went off on the Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office.

Police said they were called to Jeb Stuart Lane, off Wesconnett Boulevard, at about 1:30 p.m., and learned that a woman was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Police said she died at the scene.

According to the sheriff, a neighbor told police that during the cleaning of their firearm in their residence, a round was accidentally fired.

The sheriff said the neighbor was cooperating with police.

“It turns out to be a tragic accident with the most unfortunate outcomes,” said sergeant. Edwin Cayenne with the JSO homicide unit.

According to the sheriff, there are about 40 to 50 meters between the house of the neighbor and the house of the woman, who was in the front room at the time.

According to police, there was also a young child in the home at the time and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department notified of the incident. Cayenne said the child thought the incident was thunder and lightning due to storms in the area.
