The wildest things that happened at the racetrack this weekend

From NASCAR to IMSA to great racetracks this weekend, this weekend saw a lot of amazing action on the track – but some of it was … a little weird. So let’s go through the weirdest things that happened in the racing world this weekend?

Lamborghini Huracan’s WiFi hotspot violates rules

Here’s one that really made me cringe. After qualifying for IMSA’s 12 hours of Sebring event, the Nr. 19 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo was penalized. Although it had to start on the pole, the GTD machine was rather moved to the back of the grid.

Why? It had a WiFi hotspot.

If you’re wondering what a hotspot has to do with racing, it’s violating the IMSA’s rules, because it qualifies as a piece of telemetry, which is not allowed in the series. The Nr. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R was previously promoted to pole position.

Noah Gragson backs in the car on the Pit Road

Here is another puzzle that has set the whole internet in motion. During a pit cycle in during the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Noah Gragson, no. 9, arrived at his well box to find out that Daniel Hemric no. 18 was parked too far in the box. Hemric then turned around Gragson pulls into a strange corner in his own pit.

And then he makes a backup and almost touches the crew of Hemric.

Basically, Hemric pulled too far into Gragson’s locker during the stop and then backed up into his own locker. Gragson responded by backing into Hemric’s car. Hemric explained it like this:

“He (Gragson) had no idea what was going on on the racetrack,” he said.We came down pit road and the man was sitting behind us when you accelerated as I pulled into my box, and it had to send me around the man going to the 9s (Gragson) bus. I backed up and yes, it messed up both of our pit stops. I backed up and he decided to put it in reverse and push it into the right-hand mudguard and punch a hole in our Poppy Bank Toyota Supra nose. We had to dig again and fix it. It was completely intentional and it was absolutely ridiculous. Where I come from, you are slapped in the face for it. ”

Gragson responded after the race by saying: ‘I do not know why he is crazy. I mean, I was behind him who came into the pit, because we tightened our right forearm, and he was in our well. I had to get around him and not really know why he was there. Had to back up to get there.

‘II would be crazy if I was in his shoes too, just based on what he did in his career. It is what it is. We will move on and keep fighting. ”

There was, of course, a quarrel after the race that ended without any fights after the crew pulled everyone apart. Gragson later posted this video on his Twitter account:

Many people are upset because it has become a worrying part of Gragson’s identity as a manager: he can be a little stubborn and aggressive in other ways. is in danger. Other people are upset about everyone being upset because they are itching for a driver who throws PR carefully against the wind.

Either way, NASCAR is reviewing the incident and will make a decision later this week.

Timothyé Buret go roll

There were more than a handful of accidents in the 12 hours of Sebring yesterday, but one of the worst was that of LMP2 manager Timothé Buret. Sebring is a very difficult track, mainly because it’s a hot, bumpy mess, and Buret apparently wraps around the bumps in Turn 1 as he gets around the turn. He lost control and plowed right into the tire boundaries before rolling completely over.

More Twitter drama ensued as users argued over the “respect for the bumps” or “Sebring must recover”, but whatever it was, Buret and the number 8 team were completely out of the race. They ran second place in the class at the time of the accident, but luckily Buret walked away well.

Swindell En Roomman In Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals

Sammy Swindell and Justin Zimmerman had a great moment during the 48th annual Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals, one of the highlights weekends of the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series. The two drivers made contact and went on a series of sheets. Both drivers walked away, but as you can imagine, no one was happy.

“We destroyed a car by a child,” Swindell said. “I do not know what these children are thinking. All you have to do is buy a pit pass to drive on. You do not have to qualify. You do not have to do anything. You just show up with money, and you run across shit. ‘
