The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler checks politicians to make money, but on Sunday he got a fact check of his own after a clumsy attempt to snatch former President Donald Trump.
While Trump blew President Biden for continued school closures during his speech at the Conservative political action conference Sunday, Kessler tried to hold Trump accountable for the closures.
“Trump complains about children who have not been to schools yet. Who was president a month ago?” Kessler asked, apparently sarcastically.
Twitter users helpfully pointed out to him that a month before the speech was January 28, eight days after Biden took office.

Trump, who has been reopening appeals to schools since last summer, slammed Biden at CPAC for failing to address the issue in light of powerful, democratic teachers’ unions.
“Joe Biden has shamefully betrayed America’s youth and he keeps our children cruelly locked up in their homes, no reason for that,” Trump said.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines said schools could reopen safely without vaccinated teachers, but the Biden administration came under fire for bending union demands as children continue to languish in isolated learning environments.

Trump went on to claim that the 2020 election in his CPAC speech against him was ‘knee-jerk’ and again suggested that he actually beat Biden, which also caught the attention of fact-checkers. Trump lost the Electoral College, 306-232.
