“Lagos – because if you had a mess, you did not want to.”
Episode 5 of WandaVision came out this past Friday and it was A LOT.
Marvel Studios
Sorry, still processing THAT surprise.
Amidst all the chaos that took place in Westview, the commercial interruption of this episode was a little more cryptic than we had seen before, and MUCH shady. Let’s break it down, shall we?
The ad is for a brand of paper towels called “Lagos”. You may remember Lagos as the place of the opening match in Captain America: Civil War.
At the end of the battle, Brock Rumlow (Crossbones) planned to blow himself up as well as Captain America. Luckily for them, Wanda acted quickly to contain the explosion and keep Steve and the nearby people safe.
Unfortunately for all the others, Wanda wrongly led the explosion to a nearby building, destroying it and killing the civilians inside.
Back in the WandaVision one of the children pours a blood-red drink. You could say she has ‘blood on her hands’ with this mess that needs to be cleaned up, or something.
However, the ad does not just come for Wanda. The man in the ad flips a beer glass because men can also have “accidents”.
Now, Vision is generally a pretty good guy. That said, he still made some mess of his own. Also in Civil War, Vision hit Rhodey Rhodes wrong instead of Sam Wilson during the big airport fight scene. This is ultimately what led to Rhodey being paralyzed at the end of the film.
The ad ends with the ever-shady tagline “Lagos – because if you’ve had a mess, you did not mean to.” Uh yeah, you can definitely say that.
It definitely screamed at me, “Oh my god, oh my god!” at my TV, and it looks like I was not alone there.
This fan also raised a good question about how much control Wanda really has in her sitcom when ads like this are aired.
Wow, what an episode! Here’s the following to eagerly await answers and even more clever ads in the next!
