A man is being praised as a hero after risking his life to rescue a child who fell on train tracks at Vangani station in Mumbai, India, as an oncoming train, according to India. Ministry of Railways.

The ministry released a video showing Shri Mayur Shelke running at full speed on a set of train tracks to rescue a child who fell off the platform and onto the tracks as a train approached.

The video, recorded by security cameras at the station, shows the child initially walking next to an unidentified person as they slipped off the edge of the platform and onto the tracks below. The video shows the child struggling to get back on the platform and the unknown person grabbing into the air and struggling to pull them to safety.

As the oncoming train quickly approaches, Shelke can be seen jumping towards the child and throwing it on the platform, just seconds before a train blows past them and sneaks in to save their lives with just moments.

Shelke works as a scorer at the Vangani station where the incident took place. After his heroic efforts, the Ministry of Railways congratulated Shelke on ‘after Press releaseand praised him for his actions and offered him a monetary reward of 50,000 rupees.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced the award in a press release shared by the Ministry of Railways online. In the announcement, Shelke is congratulated for ‘the act of bravery, courage and presence of mind’ while on duty.

The ministry continued to celebrate Shelke for his brave actions with a standing ovation from their staff and a personal congratulation from the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), as shown in a video posted on their Twitter account.
