The Utah newspaper begs Jets not to choose Zach Wilson

Someone salt!

A newspaperman in Zach Wilson’s homeland, Utah, wrote an open letter on Tuesday urging the Jets to change their minds and not select the former BYU star quarterback in the 2021 draft NFL draft this month .

“Please, Jets, give Zach Wilson a break,” reads the headline of the long-running column. Deseret News author Doug Robinson.

The piece comes in response to Sam Darnold’s Jets deal, ‘their youngest quarterback failed[ure], ”As Robinson put it, last week to the Panthers, who guarantee everything but that they will select Wilson on April 29 with the second overall pick.

“The New York Post had a headline: ‘The Jets now belong to Zach Wilson,'” Robinson wrote. ‘Thank you for nothing.

“Look, the Jets are for quarterbacks who were Larry King for marriage,” Robinson wrote. “Look at their record.”

He went on to name a few of the quarterbacks, such as Darnold and Mark Sanchez, who have been moving through the Jets’ revolving door of signal callers since Joe Namath.

But not even Broadway Joe could escape Robinson’s anger: “Namath is the greatest footballer in history,” he wrote.

“Where will Wilson be in a few years?” Robinson wrote while suggesting Wilson wants to trade, like Eli Manning when he was selected by the Chargers in 2004. History shows that these are not the Jets. ”

But there are signs that this may not be your Same Old Jets. Joe Douglas, the team’s general manager for the year, helped put together a Super Bowl team in Philadelphia in 2018 and is possibly on track to build a rival in New York.

The coaching staff, who played 2-14 last season, are also away with valued defense guru Rob Saleh and his former attacking team-mate in Mike, Mike LaFleur, leading the Jets in 2021.

All of them fell in love with Wilson on his Pro Day last month, who dropped 33 Tests as a junior last weekend.

And it turns out they’re ready to pick Wilson, no matter what a Utah newspaper says.
