The UK Government’s website reveals the date of Prince Philip’s funeral

An eyewitness on the government’s UK website accidentally revealed the date for Prince Philip’s funeral – the morning of Saturday 17 April, according to a report.

The 99-year-old royal died at his home in Windsor Castle on Friday, where he and his wife, Queen Elizabeth II, were staying during the lock-up of COVID-19.

“On April 9, 2021, Buckingham Palace announced the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh,” reads the since-removed report on the Gov.uk website, as revealed on Friday by the British news website Express.co.uk.

“From this date a period of national mourning has begun and it will last eight days until the morning of the funeral,” the apparently wrong message continued.

“During that time, the government will provide guidance to the public, organizations and businesses to consider the mourning period,” he said.

The government website currently only says: ‘further announcements will be made in due course.’

Buckingham Palace was careful to bring out the details of the funeral – due to coronavirus restrictions and Philip’s outright aversion to ‘any fuss’.
