The Texas police officer ‘led into a trap,’ shoots at the stop; suspect in general: officials

The officer was taken to a Fort Worth hospital in a stable condition.

A manhunt is underway in Texas for a man suspected of stabbing a police officer overnight during an ambush at a bus stop, authorities said.

Jerry Don Elders allegedly fired several shots at a Burleson police officer when he approached Edlers’ car around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday for a breach of equipment, Burleson police chief Billy Cordell told reporters.

The officer is “alert” and in a stable condition, Cordell said, adding that his injuries did not appear life-threatening. It appears that one shot hit his bulletproof vest, the principal said.

After the shooting, Elders and two others who were in the car with him fled the scene, Cordell said.

The suspects’ car then caught fire and they abandoned the vehicle, he said.

According to police, one of the suspects went to a house and abducted a resident with a car chase.

“At 8:44 a.m. this morning, a woman arrived at the Joshua police station … with gunshot wounds,” Cordell continued.

She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Elders, 39, who are considered armed and dangerous, are wanted on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer, police said.
