Many Super Bowl viewers look forward to watching the ads, and this year was no different.
However, the series of ads for Super Bowl LV may have looked a little different than years ago. Regular advertisers like Budweiser, Pepsi, Coca-Cola and Audi all chose not to air an ad during the big game. Despite these absent brands, several companies made their Super Bowl advertising debut, including DoorDash, Oatly and Huggies.
COVID-19 may have changed some aspects of this year’s Super Bowl, but the price of showing an ad during the game was still high: companies paid about $ 5.6 million for a 30-second ad on CBS during the Super Bowl.
The next ten ads were the most memorable.
Unfortunately
Vegan milk brand Oatly’s Super Bowl ad featured its CEO, Toni Petersson, over the brand.
“It’s like milk, but made for humans,” Petersson sang in the ad. “Wow, no cow.”
Shortly after the ad aired, Twitter users began posting their sharp reviews over the 30-second cut, which caused the oatmeal maker to tune into Twitter. Oatly then debuts a limited edition t-shirt with the caption “I hated the Oatly ad completely”, under an image of Petersson.
This is not the first time the ad has been shown on TV. According to the AdAge report, the ad originally launched in Sweden in 2014, but it was taken off the air after the country’s dairy portal sued the company.
General Motors
Norway has the most per capita electric vehicles of any country, including the US. General Motors has let the statistics down with the help of stars Will Ferrell, Kenan Thompson and Awkwafina by announcing its plan to create 30 new electric vehicles by 2025.
Amazon
Amazon released its Alexa ad before the Super Bowl and it immediately became a viral hit. The ad features Michael B. Jordan, who was named the ‘sexiest man in life’ by People magazine last year, and completes the tasks as a human version of Alexa with glowing blue eyes.
Cadillac
Edward Scissorhands fans are delighted to see this year’s Cadillac Super Bowl ad. The ad features Timothée Chalamet as Edgar Scissorhands, Edward’s son, and Winona Ryder, a star from the original film. At the moment, Chalamet’s character is struggling to complete basic functions, but he can drive the Cadillac Lyriq with the vehicle’s hands – free function.
Gety
Tide’s Super Bowl ad had a surprise from Seinfeld: Jason Alexander as a hoodie. In the ad, the hoodie is soiled by its owner as it becomes a tug of war toy and a seat cushion.
Robin Hood
Robinhood’s ad may not have been particularly outstanding, but given the company’s recent controversy amid the GameStop and Reddit saga, the message ‘we are all investors’ may have resonated with viewers.
Cheetos
Cheetos’ Super Bowl ad promoted his Crunch Pop Mix. In the ad, Ashton Kutcher catches Mila Kunis stealing his bag of Cheetos. Shaggy then tells Kunis to tell Kutcher, “it wasn’t you.”
This reference to Shaggy’s 2000 hit “It Wasn’t Me” continues the rest of the ad, while Kutcher Kunis repeatedly catches up in different places to eat his bag of Cheetos.
Toyota
Toyota did not promote a specific vehicle in this year’s Super Bowl ad, but it did take time to highlight Jessica Long, a 13-time Paralympic gold medalist and double-amputee.
“We are grateful to Jessica and her family for their willingness to share such a personal part of their story with us,” Lisa Materazzo, Toyota Marketing’s vice president of the group, said in a statement.
State Farm Insurance
Super Bowl ads are known for celebrity comedies and the State Farm ad did not disappoint. At 30 seconds, Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, actor Paul Rudd, and Drake, were included as khakis.
Anheuser-Busch
Budweiser announced it would not air an ad during this year’s big game, but that did not stop its parent company, Anheuser-Busch, from debuting its first Super Bowl ad. The ad showed how people in different places do different things about Anheuser-Busch drinks. Drinks like Bud Light, Budweiser and Michelob Ultra all appeared in the ad.
According to the ad, it’s never just about the beer. It’s about being together. ‘
