A technology company has apologized after a Bay Area mailing address went up on LinkedIn, requiring applicants to be ‘non-Asian’.

Aptude, an IT consulting firm, is based in Chicago but has offices around the world. Its website says the company helps clients hire IT staff, fill a temporary development position or put together a project team. ‘ABC7 first reported that a woman looking at Bay Area mailings on LinkedIn noticed an open position for an Aptude data analyst. The post mentioned a requirement for ‘non-Asian’ applicants in the description section.

The woman’s boyfriend then posted a screenshot of the presentation, with Menlo Park as his location, on social media, where it attracted attention. The listing took place about a week before it was pulled after the setback on social media.

“Please note that the postal provision was brought to our attention for the first time on Tuesday, after which we immediately took steps to remove it from all channels and investigate how it occurred,” Aptude told ABC7. “Our investigation revealed that incorrect communication was posted by an individual without any conceivable discriminatory intent. Aptude has taken steps to ensure that such posts do not occur in the future.”

Aptude’s statement further does not explain the ‘incorrect communication’ that led to the expression ‘non-Asian’ appearing on the list. A version of the list is now available.

LinkedIn, which posted the post, also apologized.
