The Super Bowl Halftime Show of the Weeknd Makes Memes Online

The Weeknd’s Super Bowl break program has already had an impact on the internet – but perhaps not the kind the singer-songwriter would have hoped for.

The star’s expensive performance has a series in which he appears to be lost in a maze-like light and dancers in the stands of Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.

Although the moment was probably part of the show’s brilliant series, and The Weeknd was probably not lost – he did find his way out to perform on the football field – it was not long before viewers were inspired to joke about the performance.

“6-year-old I’m looking for my mother after I lost her in the mall,” wrote a Twitter user next to a video of The Weeknd looking wildly as he drives through the maze.

“When you lost in the club,” said another, share the same track.

To have fun with the slow explosion of the COVID-19 vaccine, another added: “I’m trying to find a vaccine with extra shots that are going to spill.”

“If everyone tweets a version of a meme and you try to figure out what the reference is,” it’s another joke.

The show as a whole is getting viewers underwhelmed, especially given the high expectations posed by the lack of Pepsi ads, and The Weeknd’s own financial contribution.

“It was awful. I mean the sound mix, the choreography, the concept, the masks … ridiculously bad #HalfTimeShow,” another wrote.

“Probably the worst and most boring #HalfTimeShow so far …. where’s my #ladygaga or #Shakira?” ask someone else, referring to the two previous Halftime Show artists.

“I like @theweeknd, but it could have been better. His music choice was great, but overall it could have been better for half the time,” wrote another.
