WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – People are ready to get out of the ride, called Wichita’s earthquake epidemic.
According to the Kansas Geological Survey, several earthquakes hit the area within 12 hours on Sunday.
Senior scientist Rick Miller at the KGS says it’s just a natural occurrence.
“Can relate it to a mechanic when he’s trying to loosen a bolt, it’s really very tight, he pulls, pulls and pulls, and soon it appears,” Miller said. “The kind of thing we’re doing here is that the earth pushes and pushes and pulls itself into the deep subsoil.”
The two most recent earthquakes included the strongest and weakest of the day.
The KGS measured the strongest with a strength of 4.0, hitting Eastborough at 18:08. The weakest was reported by the USGS, with a strength of 1.8, which shook Bel Aire at 22:01.
