Drew Brees does not look like someone who is about to retire from the NFL.
Brees coach Todd Durkin posted a video on social media on Saturday in which the Saints quarterback pushes a weighted sled through a parking lot and contains the captain: ‘Not sure WHY he’s so crazy today, but something needs to brew … ‘
Brees is expected to retire shortly after the Saints season ended on January 17 with a play-off loss for the Buccaneers. But he has not done so yet – and the longer he waits, the more it suggests he can reconsider his options.
The video of him working out fiercely is not going to silence the suspicion. Here is an excerpt from the commentary in the video: “Drew, what are you doing? OK, he’s never done that before! . . . Do not know what he is doing. . . Never done before! . . . You needed a challenge … This is a new record, because it’s never been done before! ”
Brees is also expected to retire last season before turning around in March and signing a two-year contract.
“Last year he joined the Saints coaching staff at the Pro Bowl and they cried because it was his last game. He retired, ” ESPN’s Adam Schefter told The Rich Eisen Show this week. “And then he took some time off, and look, he’s coming back in March.”
Brees recently agreed to reduce his salary from $ 25 million to the minimum league in 2021 to help the Saints find the salary cap hell. It was interpreted as a sign that he was retiring.
But Brees pushes the sledge like a man who intends to avoid passengers, not someone who wants to keep his father’s body in shape.
Few athletes get an end to the championship like John Elway, Peyton Manning and Michael Strahan, but Brees’ last game was a three-interception debacle against Tom Brady. It does not fit the NFL’s leader in passing the NFL.
