Another suspect arrested for the kidnapping and murder of 23-year-old Andrea Bharatt has died.

The TTPS said Balcon, who was arrested at his home on January 31, tried to escape after being arrested and sustained injuries, which required him to be admitted to hospital.

The TTPS said around 8:20 p.m., nurses at the hospital found he was not responding. They tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at 2.32pm.

The TTPS said Balcon was one of several people detained by police after Bharatt was reported missing on January 29.

The TTPS said Balcon was arrested between 2007 and 2017 and charged with 70 offenses, including multiple charges of rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment, robbery and aggravated robbery. At the time of his death, 45 of these cases were pending.

Bharatt, a clerk at the Arima Magistrate’s Court, was last seen on January 29 when he entered a taxi in Arima and has not been seen since. Her decomposed body was found on February 4 in an abyss on the Heights of Aripo.

The TTPS said an autopsy performed on Bharatt’s body today revealed that the cause of death was unconvincing. It was also confirmed that all her organs were intact.
