The second dose of COVID-19 vaccinations is scheduled for this week at Alamodome

SAN ANTONIO Bexar County health officials announced Monday that anyone receiving the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine from Tuesday to Thursday of the week in the Alamodome will be rescheduled due to a delay in shipping from the Texas State Health Department.

All two-dose vaccinations scheduled at the Alamodome are scheduled on the same appointment on the following dates:

  • February 2 appointments are rescheduled for February 16

  • February 3 appointments are rescheduled for February 17

  • February 4 appointments are scheduled for February 18

Individuals who will receive the second dose of the vaccine on Tuesday-Thursday of this week will receive further instructions via the email address or telephone number provided at their registration. Second dose appointments scheduled for Monday and Friday of this week are not affected by the delay.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience, but the doses the state has allocated to us have not arrived at this time,” said Dr. Anita Kurian, assistant director of communicable diseases, told Metro Health. ‘We understand that some people may be concerned about the long time between their second dose, but we are under CDC guidelines to ensure that the vaccine still works without problems. Pfizer and Modern COVID-19 vaccines can be scheduled for administration up to 6 weeks (42 days) after the first dose. ”

Metro Health is currently planning appointments about a week before their current award to the state in the hope that they will get the vaccines they requested. Everyone who has had a first dose has a second dose that is automatically reserved.

When appointments are available at the Alamodome, you can register online for the vaccine. Online registration is preferred, but if you need help, you can dial 311 and select option 8. Residents reported that it can be difficult to reach someone by telephone.
