After the death of Prince Philip on Friday morning, the royal family, along with the rest of the UK, entered a period of mourning.

It will last for the country until 08:00 on the day of the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral, which Buckingham Palace announced, will be held on Saturday 17 April at 15:00.

However, royal mourning – also known as court mourning – will continue for a few more days and end on Thursday 22 April.

In keeping with tradition, members and representatives of the Royal Household, as a sign of respect for the deceased husband of the Queen, will change how they dress during this time.

According to The Telegraph, the royal family members will be expected to wear black or dark clothing during this period – and a black bracelet if they wear military uniform.

Their appearance will likely be similar to the gloomy clothes they usually wear during the annual Remembrance events every November.

In addition, the household will use black-edged stationery for all written communication done with the death of the duke.

For the next two weeks, the Queen or other family members will not perform any official duties.

Prince William has already withdrawn from this weekend’s BAFTA awards due to the death of his grandfather.

The royals are not the only ones needed to dress up their wardrobe. Presenters and newsreaders were also instructed to wear black or dark clothing as well as black ties, while MPs were advised to wear black bracelets during working hours.

The duke, who died at the age of 99 in Windsor Castle, is given a ceremonial burial in St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

It has been announced that Prince Harry will travel from his home in California to attend, while his pregnant wife Meghan Markle has been advised by doctors not to fly.

On Saturday, the duke’s coffin will be transported in a custom Land Rover he helped design.
