The PS5 design you’ve been waiting for is finally here

When the PS5 was first launched last summer, the console’s design was mercilessly mocked online. From memes comparing it to WiFi routers to endless references to its gigantic size, the PlayStation 5 definitely had people talking. One of the more constructive regular remarks was that it could look great in black. Well, it’s finally happening – sort of.

A tech mudslinging company has unveiled its own unofficial PS2-inspired black version of the PS5, and it’s available from Friday at 12:00 PT. But you have to act fast – the retro-inspired PS5 is limited to 304 editions (in the blink of an eye after the release date of the original PS2: 03/04/00). If you are happy with the standard reverse Oreo color scheme, you can buy a PS5 here.

According to SUP3R5, the retro make-up was applied to each unit by hand in “a tedious process carried out with the utmost attention to detail and quality”. Not only is the console and DualSense controller now black, but the design also includes colored PlayStation logos on each (the logo is gray on the standard PS5) to match the look of the PS2.

We are big fans of the black PS5 makeup of SUP3R5 and can not help but wish that Sony offered a similar design during the launch. Of course, the company can keep a black edition up its sleeve to release later, but if you want one as soon as possible, this impressive mod may be the best option. And PlayStation fans seem to be particularly enthusiastic about the new look:
