According to a new leak, OnePlus will continue its expansion beyond smartphones in the new year by releasing an inexpensive fitness tracker.
Android Central reports that the OnePlus Band will be an affordable $ 40 alternative to the OnePlus Watch, another device confirmed to be coming to the OnePlus series. The band will reportedly launch during the first quarter of 2021, which means it could debut with the OnePlus 9, which is rumored to appear in March.
Listed features for the OnePlus Band include water resistance, an AMOLED screen and a battery that lasts for several days. A price of $ 40 will also make it portable very cheap: most of the best cheap fitness trackers are more in the $ 70 to $ 90 range, except for the Amazfit Band 5 and the Xiaomi Mi Band range. On the note, both Mi Band 4 and Mi Band 5 share the same three features, so OnePlus may have looked Xiaomi specifically for inspiration.
Such aggressive pricing will also reflect OnePlus’ approach to its phones, which is usually cheaper than their closest competitors, especially in the case of OnePlus Nord.
Unlike the Wear OS-powered OnePlus Watch, the OnePlus Band can use its own operating system and must be much lighter and thinner to emphasize the fitness focus. Interestingly, the Android Central report claims that OnePlus will initially sell the OnePlus band in India, but since the OnePlus Watch seems to be available worldwide and all of OnePlus’ phones have been launched around the world, you can expect the OnePlus Band to be . elsewhere also sold.
Either way, a statement from Q1 2021 means we won’t have to wait long to see what makes the OnePlus Band tick. Assuming that it is launched near or with the OnePlus 9 and variants like the OnePlus 9 Lite, it will be interesting to see if the devices can communicate with each other in any special way.
