Animal Crossing, the game that really kicked off Nintendo’s increasingly popular life-sim franchise on GameCube in 2001, could earn a place in The Strong Museum’s World Video Game Hall of Fame.
The Strong is a New York-based museum that contains ‘the world’s largest and most comprehensive collection of historical material related to gaming’, including a whole host of toys and video games. To receive a title in the museum’s Hall of Fame, it must have ‘enjoyed popularity over a long period of time and influenced the video game industry or popular culture and society in general.’
For 2021, a total of twelve matches have been listed as potential candidates for the launch of a Hall of Fame:

– Call of Duty
– FarmVille
– FIFA International Football
– Guitar hero
– Mattel Football
– Microsoft Flight Simulator
– Pole position
– Hall
– Star craft
– Tron

“Nintendo’s Animal transition debuted in 2001 and finds great appeal with its open social simulation and tranquil gameplay. Players took on the role of a human being who moved into a village full of anthropomorphic animals. The soft play was a success with comfortable and advanced players, and it bred numerous sequels.
