The next Moto 360 may have a Snapdragon 4100

A planned Wear OS smartwatch from Motorola with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Wear 4100 processor may have leaked (via 9to5Google). If the photos are real and not just reproduced, it could be a sign that the next Moto 360 (or whatever it’s called) can perform significantly better than the previous one, and that it can have some benefits if due to the 28nm process to a 12nm one.

The 2019 Moto 360 uses a Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor, which was only a minor update for the 2100 of 2016. Despite Qualcomm’s claims that the new (ish) 4100 has an 85 percent faster CPU, two and a half times faster GPU, and With 25 percent more battery life, it looks like there’s only one watch on the market that actually has the chip.

The image showing the potential watch (and apparently also showing a wireless charging coil) was found in an investor offering along with three other smartwatches. The nameless watch has a text on the back, and when Reddit user TheMacJezza zooms in and out, they see that it appears to be ‘Snapdragon Wear 4100’. I’m no logician, but it would seem that this Mystery Moto contains a Snapdragon Wear 4100 (especially if the current Moto 360’s processor name is also printed on the back).

Motorola does not make smartwatches with a Moto brand. The name is licensed to a company called eBuyNow, which released the third generation Moto 360 in 2019. EBuyNow later merged with another company called CE Brands, according to 9to5Google, which previously reported on an investor presentation detailing the hardware roadmap for Moto for 2021.

Correction: This article has previously implied that Motorola smartwatches are still manufactured by Moto; it has been updated to indicate that the trademark is licensed. The edge regrets the mistake.
