The next iPad Pro may have a Thunderbolt port

Apple plans to launch a new iPad Pro model soon – perhaps only next month – according to sources quoted by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who has accurately predicted several Apple launches over the past few years.

The report claims that the new iPad Pros will be in the same sizes of 11 inches and 12.9 inches in which they are currently offered and that they will also look like the current models. However, they have better cameras, faster processors, a new port and – at least in the 12.9-inch model – a new screen technology.

The biggest surprise in this article is that the new port will be the same as on Apple’s laptops: Thunderbolt. According to Bloomberg’s sources, Apple has tested versions of the iPad Pro that can be connected to more external monitors and other peripherals due to the inclusion of a Thunderbolt port.

However, it makes no sense whether external monitor support will be improved due to the basic mirror implementation we currently see on the iPad.

The new iPad Pros have a new faster chip comparable to the M1 introduced in the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro last year. And at least the bigger of the two iPad Pro models has a new Mini-LED display, which joins a trend in the direction among many electronics manufacturers trying to make cheaper, more resilient LCD screens competitive with OLED.

The report does not elaborate on the upcoming camera changes, and only says that it will be better than the cameras in the current models.

Bloomberg concludes with a reminder that its sources have previously said that Apple is planning ‘major updates’ for the iMac and MacBook Pro, as well as AirTags, the company’s long-delayed Tile competitor with augmented reality features.

There are rumors that Apple will be hosting an event next week announcing new iPads and maybe other products, but the window in which invitations for such an event will normally be sent is now gone, indicating that it will not happen .

However, Apple announced an iPad Pro update last year, and Bloomberg’s claim that a new update will take place as soon as April looks likely.
