The New Jersey man (52) is admitted to hospital with COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated
- Francisco Cosme received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine
- He was given away on March 6 at the Javits Center in New York
- People are considered protected two weeks after being vaccinated
- On April 1, he started showing symptoms of COVID-19 and was confirmed positive
- Last week his condition worsened and he was taken to the JFK Medical Center
- The J&J vaccination is 72% effective in the US, which means that 28 out of 100 still become infected
A New Jersey man is fighting for his life in the hospital with COVID-19, despite being vaccinated against the virus.
Francisco Cosme, 52, was vaccinated on March 6 with the single-shot vaccine Johnson & Johnson and is traveling from his home in Edison, New Jersey to Manhattan for a while.
The vaccine is considered effective after two weeks, and Cosme continued to follow the CDC’s advice on social distance and face masks.
Yet his daughter, Michelle Torres, 31, told The New York Post that he fell ill on April 1.

“He has cough, fever, chills, everything,” she told the newspaper.
Torres took her father to a clinic where he tested positive for COVID-19 and was ordered to be quarantined for ten days.
His condition continued to deteriorate, and last week she noticed that her father was struggling to breathe, and called 911.
Cosme was given oxygen and taken by ambulance to John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Union City, New Jersey.
According to Torres, her father is in a critical condition and is being treated for pneumonia.
“I try to keep it together, every day you do not know what happens,” she told the newspaper.
“The doctor said they did everything to do it, and it’s up to him to fight and to God.”
Torres told the Post her mother, her husband and her children also all tested positive for the virus.
‘We survived the whole year without it [the vaccine] – do all the things we are supposed to do: take social distance, wash hands and mask, ‘she said.
“It’s crazy and we need answers.”
She did not specify whether he had conditions.
The Javits Center is one of the largest mass centers in the New York area
None of the COVID vaccines currently being administered are 100 percent effective.
On April 4, Ashley Allen, 31, tested positive for COVID, despite receiving her one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the Javits Center on March 10.
However, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is believed to be 100 percent effective in preventing serious cases of COVID, such as Cosme.
“The vaccine has been highly effective in preventing hospitalization and death in people who have become ill,” the CDC said on its website.
“No one who received COVID-19 at least four weeks after receiving the J & J / Janssen vaccine had to be admitted to hospital.”
