The new Deathloop trailer finally explains Deathloop

Deathloop is one of the more confusing games coming to PlayStation 5 this year. It looks similar to developer Arkane Studios’ other game series, Dishonored, but DeathloopThe structure may be difficult to turn your mind to. Fortunately, the game director Dinga Bakaba from Arkane Lyon explains the whole thing in a new trailer, entitled “Deathloop explain. ”

Bakaba begins by explaining Deathloop as a murder mystery where you play an assassin caught in a time loop. ‘To illustrate his point, the trailer uses a timeline for the rest of the trailer, with Bakaba appearing in various outfits, with a variety of props, and explaining different things as he walks on the set.

Deathloop is in essence Groundhog Day, the Bill Murray classic, but with murder. Players wake up every day on an island called Black Reef. The characters and NPCs all repeat their actions daily, and it is up to the player to kill numerous targets in the most effective way before the day is over. When the day ends, the time loop begins and everyone starts coming back to life.

To those who are familiar, it may sound like the anxiety-inducing time mechanic of The legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. Other than Majora, Deathloop is not on such a hard deadline. Players have the freedom to approach different scenarios and eliminate eight targets without worrying about an actual counter (it is currently unclear how time passes in the game).

Deathloop features an arsenal of weapons and cosmic powers that should seem familiar to Dishonored fans. Players can upgrade it during their Deathloop travel, and the upgrades remain intact when the time loop begins. More importantly, each time players play, players gain knowledge about the movements of each target, which will help them plan their next day and their desired kill sequence.

Deathloop has a twist, which appears a lot in its original announcement. Juliana is a competitive assassin, and she will hunt you while you play. If players opt for multiplayer, an opposing player can invade their world like Juliana, making the cat and mouse game a little more stressful.

This trailer arrives only a few days later Deathloop‘s Deja Vu ‘trailer from Sony’s latest State of Play, and does a much better job of describing how the game works.

Deathloop will hit PlayStation 5 and Windows PC exclusively on May 21st. It will only come to other platforms at least May 2022.
