Thousands of National Guard troops will be deployed in Washington, DC by former President Trump

With the former president’s Senate hearing starting on February 8, the Pentagon is apparently worried about the possibility of mass demonstrations in the city.
Up to 5,000 troops will remain in the country’s capital until mid-March, the news office reported. The guard was deployed earlier after Jan. 6 of deadly riots by pro-Trump crowds trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
The guards have meanwhile made an exception to what they believe is an unclear mission.
“It’s honestly not a ‘battlefield’, so fighting conditions should not apply,” an Afghanistan veteran currently deployed in the capital told Politico.
Two members of the Guard members received no official justification for their continued presence.
“There is no defined situation or mission statement … This is very unusual for any military mission,” one member added. “We usually get a situation, with defined mission scope, and at least a preliminary plan to achieve these goals.”
According to Pentico, the Pentagon will hold about 7,000 members of the guard as riot security in the city until early February, removing about 2,000 at the start of the trial. Another Guard member told the news agency that the Guard “will not allow any surprises.” About 25,000 troops were in the city for the eventual inauguration of President Biden.
There are also security concerns around March 4, when some supporters of the far-right QAnon conspiracy theory hope Trump will be inaugurated for a second term.
