The U.S. National Guard deployed 50 times more troops to the Capitol after the January 6 riots than to protect the famous building after the September 11 attacks.
The National Guard sent 100 troops to the Capitol complex to defend the country’s power after terrorists attacked the Pentagon – just a few miles across the Potomac River – and the World Trade Center in New York nearly 20 years ago has.
After the Capitol was attacked on January 6, 2021, a decade later, the Pentagon decided to keep 5,000 service members at the building until March this year. This increased an increase in manpower by more than 50 times what was used in response to 9/11.
The National Guard confirmed to Fox News that the number of troops sent to the Capitol building in 2001 during the “Task Force: Capital Guardian” to defend the Capitol building was 100 service members.

Biden’s Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, dominated the National Guard chief, General Daniel R. Hokanson, who wrote a memorandum saying that the Pentagon did not comply with the request of 2,280 troops by the US Capitol Police ( USCP) to the Capitol should not fulfill, Fox News reported Thursday.
“Efforts to date have not yet secured enough volunteers among supporting states to meet the USCP request of 2,280 soldiers, nor for option B of 1,000 soldiers,” the memorandum reads.
The memo said Hokanson was concerned that “the ongoing indefinite nature” of the operation “could also hamper” how the Pentagon would man future operations.
“I am concerned that the continuing indefinite nature of this requirement may also hamper our ability to master future missions, as adjutant general as well as wardens may be skeptical about commitment to future endeavors,” the memorandum reads.
Austin has decided to keep the troops in the Capitol and is apparently considering implementing involuntary activation orders.
The troops deployed to the Capitol complex in DC remain after months of deployment, where they allegedly slept on the floor and were fed stale food.
The troops came in response to waves of supporters of former President Donald Trump’s ‘Stop the Steal’ march looting the Capitol as he tried to stop the Senate from confirming the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
The National Guard had a delay of more than half an hour when the Pentagon allowed the deployment of troops to the Capitol amid the riots and their actual deployment.

The leadership of the House Armed Services Committee – Reps. Adam Smith, D-Wash., The chairman, and Mike Rogers, R-Ala., The rank-and-file, called for the National Guard troops to “return to their families” if the operation continues to grow.
“As the U.S. Capitol Police continue to build on its capability, there is no doubt that some support from the National Guard in the National Capital Region must remain in response to credible threats against the Capitol,” Smith and Rogers said. a press said release.
“We appreciate that our guards are responding to the call to protect the Capitol, but it is time we look at the degree of security needed so that they can return to their families and communities,” they added.
