The musician SOPHIE has passed away.
The groundbreaking artist passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning in Athens.
An official statement to Mixmag of SOPHIE’s team says that SOPHIE died after a sudden accident.
The full statement can be read below:
“It is with deep sadness that I must inform you that the musician and producer SOPHIE passed away this morning around 04:00 in Athens, where the artist lived, after a sudden accident. At this moment, respect and privacy for the family is ours. priority We also ask for respect for her fan and for handling the privacy of this news with sensitivity.
“SOPHIE was a pioneer of a new sound, one of the most influential artists of the past decade. Not only for ingenious production and creativity, but also for the message and visibility achieved. An icon of liberation.”
Along with the statement, pronouns of SOPHIE’s team are not used in this article and we only refer to the artist named SOPHIE.
The record company Transgressive, which released SOPHIE’s debut album ‘Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’, posted a statement on Twitter saying SOPHIE ‘accidentally slipped and fell’ while climbing to watch the full moon.
SOPHIE from Glasgow was born on labels like Numbers. and Huntleys & Palmers in and the debut album ‘Oil Of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’ released on Transgressive Records in 2018. The album was nominated in 2019 for the best dance / electronic album at the Grammys. Earlier this month, the duo Autechre redone SOPHIE’s 2013 track. ‘BIPP’.
Numbers paid tribute on Twitter, saying ‘the world has lost an icon of liberation’.

SOPHIE’s experimental approach to pop music and the use of vocal modulation to explore gender identity was groundbreaking.
Talk to Billboard In 2018, SOPHIE said: “Transness takes control to bring your body more in line with your soul and spirit, so that the two do not fight each other and struggle to survive. On this earth it is that you can get closer to how you feel to be your true being without the social pressure to fulfill certain traditional roles based on gender. ”
SOPHIE co-wrote Diplo, MoZella, Toby Gad and Ariel Rechtshaid with Madonna’s 2015 single ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’, starring Nicki Minaj.
SOPHIE has also worked with founder AG Cook, Charli XCX and rapper Vince Staples in the past.
