The Mercedes-Benz EQS of 2022 is an electric flagship of Tesla

Mercedes-Benz gets a new flagship to tackle the growing fleet of new electric luxury sedans from Tesla, Lucid, Porsche, Audi and other carmakers.

Launched on Thursday, the EQS is a fully powered battery in the spirit of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

It is the first of the carmaker’s upcoming range of EQ electric vehicles to be offered in the US, after the indefinite period that the launch of the EQC compact SUV currently on sale in Europe has been postponed.

The 17-foot long four-door is available as the EQS 480+ with a 329 hp rear-wheel drive system and the 516 hp 4-wheel drive EQS 580 4MATIC.

Mercedes claims a range of 478 miles per charge for both versions using the European rating system, but does not yet have an EPA certification, which contributes to more highway driving. By comparison, the upcoming Audi e-tron GT is listed at 303 miles in Germany and 238 miles in the US

The EQS will be equipped as standard with a computer-controlled air suspension system, a full range of electronic driver aids and offers a choice of two optional four-wheel steering systems that can rotate its rear wheels 4.5 or 10 degrees to improve the car’s mobility.

It also features a new hyper screen dashboard design that includes three digital screens under a single 56-inch glass panel, a keyless entry system that prepares the driving force as soon as you get into the cabin, and a fingerprint sensor that identifies and configures the driver the characteristics of the vehicle according to their predetermined preferences.

High-end luxury options include opening and closing doors, massaging seats and an augmented reality show.
