The mayor of Texas is stepping down after asking residents to stop complaining about the cold

A Texas mayor has resigned after asking residents to stop complaining about the cold after an unexpected winter storm devastated millions in Texas and left them without power.

“No one owes you or your family anything; it is also not the local government’s responsibility to support you during difficult times! Sink or swim, it’s your choice!” Colorado Mayor Tim Boyd said in a Facebook post that has now been removed Post.

Boyd resigns as mayor due to a setback for the post, David Hoover, Colorado City manager tell NBC News.

The storm, which killed 20 people, left Texas with the coldest temperatures it has seen in years with pipes freezing and leaving some without water or electricity.

“If you do not have electricity, you need to make a game plan to keep your family warm and safe. If you have no water, think outside the box to survive and give water to your family,” Boyd said. “If you sat in the cold at home because you have no power and sit there waiting for someone to come and save you, because your laziness is a direct result of your increase.”

Residents of the town wanted public buildings to be opened with electricity so that they would not have to stay in their homes without power or heat all day, reports NBC News.

“The city and province, along with power providers or any other service, owe you NOTHING! I’m tired of people looking for a d handout!” Boyd wrote.
