The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal plays Joel in HBO’s TV show The Last of Us

Pedro Pascal, you may recognize The Mandalorian himself, is the role of Joel in the TV adaptation of HBO The last of us, as first reported by Deadline. The cast was confirmed shortly afterwards by The last of us creative director (and an executive producer and writer for the program) Neil Druckmann.

Pascal’s confirmed cast comes hours after news broke that Bella Ramsey, who played fan favorite ruler Lyanna Mormont, Game of Thrones, plays Ellie, Joel’s replacement daughter. (Pascal also played a role in Game of Thrones – he played Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper of Dorne.) It also comes shortly after the news that Lucasfilm has broken ties with one of Pascal’s co-stars. The Mandalorian, Gina Carano.

The first match in The last of us The series focuses largely on Joel and Ellie’s relationship, and it seems likely that the initial course of the series will also keep the focus on the two characters. In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, the series already has some other notable talent on board – Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin is a writer and executive producer, and Kantemir Balagov, who directed the Indian drama from World War II Beanstock, was set to direct the pilot episode.
