The Mandalorian: VFX Artists Improve Luke Skywalker Cameo

A team of VFX artists took over to present their own version of Luke Skywalker in The Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian.

A team of VFX artists took it upon themselves to present their own version of an important scene in the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian.

The YouTube channel Corridor Crew discussed the technology to shape the Luke Skywalker cameo in ‘The Rescue’ and how to improve it. Most of the process used the extremely controversial deep trap technology to recreate Hamill’s face. Corridor Crew posted another video in which they presented their reactions to the official cameo – and they were less than enthusiastic about the final product.

During the events of ‘The Rescue’, Luke Skywalker apparently helped Din Djarin and his companions when they were chosen by a platoon of Dark Troopers. After defeating the Dark Troopers, Skywalker offered to train the Force-sensitive child in the ways of the Force – which led to a tearful farewell to Djarin. Mark Hamill, who played in the original Skywalker Star Wars trilogy and the sequel trilogy, repeated his role as Skywalker. Skywalker’s appearance in The Mandalorian led to mixed reactions of Star Wars fans, with its digitally edited face the most polarizing element.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian plays Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Seasons 1 and 2 are now streaming on Disney +.
