David E. Kelley’s Lincoln Lawyer Series Finds a New Home on Netflix Starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo

Matthew McConaughey starred in the filming of The Lincoln Lawyer in 2011, and a series version via CBS was scrapped last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, a new version of the David E. Kelley series has found a new home on Netflix starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo in Mickey Haller.

The first season of The Lincoln Lawyer in 10 episodes, based on Michael Connelly’s novel series, focuses on the second book, The Brass Verdict.

The creative team of the CBS version remains the same for the new incarnation with Kelley (Big Little Lies, The Undoing) and showrunner Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife) serving as writers and executive producers.

Connelly and Ross Fineman will also deliver executive production.

With the cast of Mexico-born Garcia-Rulfo (The Magnificent Seven, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) in the title role, the series will honor the Latinx origin.

The Lincoln attorney turns to Mickey Haller (Garcia-Rulfo), an iconoclastic idealist, who runs his legal practice from the back seat of his Lincoln Town Car while taking on cases large and small across Los Angeles.

“Manuel is the ideal Mickey Haller, as Haller follows in the footsteps of his lawyer father with the showing of his Mexican movie star,” Connelly said in a statement from Netflix.

“Manuel brings a powerful dynamic and dimension to the role – one that matches the books and provides the opportunity to celebrate the Latinx heritage and roots of this Los Angeles-based story.”

Connelly added: “The series will be adapted to serve the complex and mysterious arches that fans know and love, with a mix of light-hearted humor and a dose of family dynamics.”

The role that Mickey would play would be played by Logan Marshall-Green in the CBS version. Mickey’s second ex-wife Lorna, who would be played by Kiele Sanchez, will also be recreated, according to Deadline.

The search for a director for the new series continues.

So far, there is no word on an official premiere date.
