Apple’s 2021 iMac will not only have a bold look, but will also have much more real estate, according to a learner with a strong record.
“The screen of iMac is really big, bigger than the biggest,” he wrote L0vetodream on Twitter (translated). Since the largest iMac Apple sells is built around a 27-inch screen, it looks like users could enjoy more real estate.
Given the current iMac with a rather thick edge and a substantial ‘chin’, it is quite possible that Apple can increase the screen size without enlarging the footprint of the device itself. This is something Apple has done before, albeit with a different kind of hardware: the iPhone 12 mini has a larger screen than the iPhone SE, although it has a smaller size.
Since we’ve heard that the 2021 iMac will draw design inspiration from the Apple Pro Display XDR with its flat back and reduced edges, it’s quite possible that the iMac L0vetodream refers to the same 32-inch dimensions.
If that sounds like a lot, it sounds like Apple will keep the smaller iMac, though rumors are growing as well. With the same edge and chin savings as the larger iMac, it is suggested that the smaller model will grow from 21.5 inches to about 24 inches.
In addition to changing design and dimensions, it has also been reported that the new iMacs will come in different colors should you want to make your workspace a little more playful.
Of course, this counts on the inside of an iMac that really counts, and rumor has it that Apple’s all-in-one desktop last year could follow the MacBook Pro M1, MacBook Air M1 and Mac mini M1 to beat Intel for Apple Silicon drop.
The new Macs are an excellent player with low power consumption. It will likely be improved in an iMac, with Apple allegedly experimenting with its own silicone ‘with as many as 32 high-performance cores’ – a big step up from the eight in the current M1 chip.
Last month, it appears that an accident confirmed that Apple is at least testing its own chips in iMac hardware, though of course it is possible that Intel will also sell Intel configurations for purists who need maximum software compatibility.
Although Apple is reportedly planning an event for this month, it’s not clear if the iMac will make an appearance. Instead, the focus will apparently be on the 2021 iPad Pro and the AirTags.
