Earlier this year, we got a pretty extensive look at what is allegedly an almost final build of Windows 10X working on a single-screen computer. Since then, we have not seen or heard much about the release of the software, but a new report claims that it has more details about when the first device with Windows 10X will be available.
According to Windows CentralMicrosoft hopes to record a release of Windows 10X this spring, with a tentative launch for the second half of 2021. Microsoft reportedly wanted to ship the first single-screen PC with Windows 10X this spring, but could not sign off on time at a shipping scheme.
If you are unfamiliar, Windows 10X is a special version of Windows 10 that was originally designed for folding computers. But through the shift in strategy, Microsoft designed Windows 10X for single-screen computers, which created an experience to compete with Chrome OS. In fact, Microsoft’s software needs a lot of design instructions from Chrome OS, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Microsoft allegedly targeted low-cost education and enterprise customers, and “according to ‘not really on consumer devices’ Windows Central. Instead, the company is preparing a major update, called Sun Valley, designed to modernize Windows 10 and ‘rejuvenate’ the experience.
Apparently, Microsoft has no plans to add local Win32 app support to Windows 10X at launch, despite extra development time. Windows CentersI claim that Microsoft has the priority of using Windows Virtual Desktop and Cloud PC as power solutions for legacy applications.
It is possible that the launch timeline of Windows 10X will coincide with the return to school season, which is at the end of the summer. This is pure speculation on our part, but with a view to a ‘second half’ it seems like the best sentence. Of course, we’ll keep you posted on new developments related to the launch of Windows 10X.
