The latest update of Windows 10 apparently causes BSODs during printing

If your computer suffers from a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) while trying to print, Microsoft’s recent Windows Update may be to blame.

According to reports from Windows Latest and other sites, all of which refer to a Reddit thread, users started experiencing BSODs shortly after installing Windows Update KB5000802, which was installed on March 9th.

While the Reddit thread specifically mentions BSODs occurring with Kyocera printers, Windows Latest reported that it has heard similar results with printing activities of various makes and models, including Ricoh. When the BSOD occurs, users may receive the “APC_INDEX_MISMATCH for win32kfull.sys” error message.

PCWorld reaches out to Microsoft but does not receive any comments at press time. However, after this story was published, Microsoft confirmed the problem. “We are working to resolve an issue that is affecting a subset of customers using certain printers,” a company representative said by email.

This seems to be the problem with rolling back the patch. Some users on the Reddit thread reported that they could remove the Windows 10 patch, but others did not.

Unfortunately, because the update in question was a security update, users may be exposed to a security issue by repairing the patch. However, if necessary, users can remove the patch by following these steps:

  1. Open the Windows settings menu and then go to Settings> Update & Security> Windows Update.
  2. Click on View update history.
  3. Click on Remove updates link, then search for the relevant update.
  4. Once you have found it, click Remove.
