ABC and “The Goldbergs” on Wednesday paid tribute to the late actor George Segal after the broadcast of his last episode in the hit sitcom.
Segal’s wife, Sonia, confirmed he died in March from complications due to a bypass operation. He had already filmed the episode, which aired on April 7, but no one at the time knew it would be his last. In honor of the star, who played Albert “Pops” Solomon, a grandfather to three children in the 1980s, the show concluded with a loving tribute to his character highlighting some of his best moments from the show has.
Clips of Pops dancing, dressing in a Ghostbusters costume with his grandson, embracing the family and giving a pep talk about women played over the footage of his character. The video ends with a shot of Pops embracing the Goldberg family as he delivers the rule: “If you just believe in yourself like I do, you can not lose.”

The video, posted on Twitter, concludes with a simple message that says the cast and crew of the sitcom will miss their grandfather on screen. Following the episode, Wendi McLendon-Covey, who plays the matriarch of the Goldberg family and the daughter on the screen of Pops, paid tribute to the late Segal on Twitter.
“Tonight’s episode was the last that George filmed, but not the last of our season. We had no idea at the time that we would film it, that it would be our last with him,” did she tweet.
The star added: “We had so much fun filming this episode, and George was still a game for anything. Always a forward and a joy to be with!”

She too shared a photo of Segal wrote from the show: “We will love you forever. See you in our dreams.”
“We love you very much and miss you,” the Goldbergs star added Hayley Orrantia.
In a statement provided to Fox News in March, ABC paid tribute to the actor.
